CORNWALL | Let's Talk about Essence
It’s time to talk about Essence. What is an Essence? My previous blog was all about toners. Toners are the last step in the cleansing process. An essence is the first step in the treatment process. An essence is slightly thicker than a toner in consistency and full of potent ingredients that target dehydration, wrinkles, fine lines, dull uneven skin tone, dark spots and texture. The active ingredients in an essence dive deep into your skin to help lock in hydration. Some common ingredients found in an essence are antioxidants like vitamin C and E, as well as ingredients that offer protection from the damaging effects of pollution. Vitamin C helps your skin produce collagen and vitamin E soothes and softens your skin. An essence can also target acne, pores or redness. The anti aging benefits are incredible. Your skin looks plump, hydrated and soft almost immediately. It is an added bonus in your skincare routine you don’t want to forget!
The most common question asked about an essence is how to apply it. An essence bottle usually has a special spout that prevents you from pouring too much liquid out. This is done because the smallest amount is needed. Some essences come in a spray bottle which makes it even easier to apply. You splash or spray some essence onto the inside of your hand, pat your hands together and then gently press the essence with your hands onto your cheeks, your forehead, your chin, and move down to your neck too. Some people repeat this process a few times because it is so soothing and beneficial. Once your skin is hydrated and damp it will absorb your serum and moisturizer like a sponge.
Like all skincare products there are essences to fit every budget. At the drugstore one of the most popular brands is Pixi by Petra. Pixi products are infused with botanical ingredients that are carefully formulated and nourishing. The Pixi Rose Caviar Essence is made from concentrated flower oils. It softens and helps brighten your skin. It is gentle and suitable for all skin types. Most reviews about this essence talk about how soothing and calming it is. People who try it keep repurchasing it because it is so affordable and does a great job. This essence is unique because it is almost a gel like consistency that is cool when applied but quickly turns into liquid when it touches your skin and disappears within seconds as your skin drinks it up like a tall glass of water. It is sold at most drugstores and online at Pixi Beauty. https://www.pixibeauty.com
At Sephora there are several essences worth trying. I can’t write about essence without mentioning the tried and true by Tatcha. Their essence targets dry dehydrated skin, fine lines and wrinkles and uneven skin tone. It contains green tea and other amazing Japanese skin softening ingredients that people swear by. This essence helps plump and resurface skin because of it’s concentrated ingredients. It is pricey but such a small amount is needed so it last for many months. Another less expensive but just as effective essence at Sephora is by Fresh. Their kombucha facial treatment essence has 4.5 stars for a reason. It is full of antioxidants and pollution protection. Kombucha is a fermented tea that helps brighten skin while making it visibly smoother. This essence also has fruit extracts in it that help soften skin texture and refine pores. 98% of users in a clinical test done by Sephora saw immediate results. I have both the Tatcha and the Fresh essence. I currently alternate between them and my third essence from Le Mieux that I’ll get to soon. If clogged pores and dark spots are what you’re targeting then the Caudalie Vinoperfect Glycolic Essence is for you. This essence is made with glycolic acid and grape water. It is perfect for clearing out excess oil and bacteria and preventing blackheads. It is calming and packed with clean powerful ingredients. http://sephora.com
Another fantastic essence which you may not have heard of is from a brand called Le Mieux. It’s one of my favorites along with the Tatcha and Fresh I mentioned above. This essence is medical grade and great for all skin types. What’s even better about this essence is that it is also affordable! I talked about medical grade skincare in my previous blog about toners. Medical grade products are backed by years of research. They are sold online by authorized sellers or by physicians. I recommend shopping online at Skin Beautiful RX for medical grade products like the Le Mieux Essence. This essence has dual purposes as it can be used as an essence or a toner or both! It can be applied on a small cotton pad to remove excess residue after cleansing and then you can spritz some on your hand and press it onto your skin as an essence. It is infused with peptides and botanical extracts that help soften and brighten skin. So let’s recap, so far we’ve discussed double cleansing, toners and essence…next up will be vitamin C. Stay tuned and put your best face forward!
