Ever Been to an Ice Fishing Party?

I have always wanted to go ice fishing, but never seemed to have the time. Then a friend of mine told me she was having an ice fishing party. My first thought was what is an ice fishing party? Well I soon found out at Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles.

Located north of Montreal, Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles offers a place with a lot of options for ice fishing to meet anyone’s needs. You can fish for a few hours, walk around and enjoy the fresh air, go skating, sliding or play a game of hockey on the outdoor rink.

You can choose from a half day (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) or full day (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) options and rent a variety of size huts from 4 to 10 people.

With your fishing hut rental, you get:

  • Hut (8’x8’ most common)

  • Heating Unit

  • 10 tip-ups (fishing rods)

  • 10 holes

  • Skimmer (to take ice off water)

  • Carrying case

  • Bait

If your going to have a party, you will want to go for the biggest huts that fits 10-12 people. For around $125 you get a small hut/cabin with heater inside (and firewood is included), fishing and access to all the activities.

Protip: If you are there with kids you may want a cabin closer to shore to keep an eye on kids as they run around. If you are more focused on catching fish, you will want a cabin a bit farther from shore where there are more fish.

Don’t Know how to Ice Fish?

No worries. On Saturdays and Sundays fROM 1- 4pm you can attend a guided family ice fishing session. You will learn about good fishing practises, different species of fish you can catch on the river, the anatomy of the fish and different fishing techniques. All the equipment is provided and at the end you will have a demonstration about filleting and fish tasting.

This is a great opportunity for kids ages 9 to 12 to be part of the young sport fishers program. Each child will get a valid fishing permit they can use until their 18th birthday, a gimbal and a Gulliver guide.
