Do I need to use a toner after cleansing? This is a question I get asked all the time. A toner has many purposes and removes any trace of residue left behind from your cleansers. Toners are also great to help reset the pH of your skin, help control acne, help add hydration, help with anti aging, and help your skin better absorb any serum or moisturizer you apply next. Applying a toner is also an easy way to add antioxidants and other active ingredients to your skincare routine. Toners also keep your skin fresh and blemish free without stripping the skin of essential oils or over drying it. Toners exist in every price range and are sold at drugstores, Sephora and online from authorized retailers.  One of the most popular ingredients often found in toners is witch hazel because it clears pores, soothes irritated skin and has anti inflammatory effects. Aloe Vera, cucumber extract, hyaluronic acid and rose water are also common ingredients in toners that calm and re-hydrate dry skin.

One of the most popular budget friendly toners that has been around for years is Thayers Witch Hazel Aloe Vera Rose Petal alcohol free toner (available at drugstores and on Amazon).  This toner is gentle yet very effective and can be used by all skin types and all ages. Thayers has added several other toners to their collection in the past few years. Thayers Coconut Water Facial Toner contains coconut water for extra hydration. Their Cucumber Facial Toner has cucumber essence and Aloe Vera for a very soothing experience. They also make mini sizes and have Toning Towelettes which are great for travelling.

If you’re lacking hydration or have specific skin issues you want to target look no further than Sephora. The sales associates at Sephora are extremely helpful.  They can assist you in finding the right toner for your skin type. Don’t forget Sephora associates can also provide you with up to three samples so you can try each toner at home after cleansing and decide which works best for you. Fresh Deep Hydration Facial Toner is one of their best selling toners. It will nourish, soothe and hydrate your skin so it is soft and smooth in no time. If you have oily or combination skin a pore refining toner will purify your complexion. One of the most popular toners at Sephora for oily/combination skin is the Ole Henriksen Balancing Force Oil Control Toner. This toner has 4.5 stars at Sephora for a reason!  On the higher end at Sephora you can also try SK-II Clear Lotion Toner that has an ingredient in it called pitera. Pitera is full of vitamins, minerals and acids that blend together to tighten pores, gently exfoliate your skin and brighten your skin. People who use it swear it’s worth every penny!

Last, but definitely not least, we have medical grade toners. Don’t be fooled by the term ‘medical grade’. You don’t need to see a doctor or have a prescription to buy it. These products are referred to as medical grade because their ingredients are backed by science and research.  Medical grade toners are only sold at a physician's office or online by authorized sellers.  We recommend shopping online at Skin Beautiful Rx for

any medical grade products.  Obagi Nu-Derm toner revitalizes your skin, removes impurities and offers soothing hydration.  Another medical grade toner that is a top seller at Skin Beautiful Rx is Le Mieux Brightening Toner. This toner helps brighten dull skin and reduce dark spots while providing deep hydration.  Skin Beautiful Rx also has fantastic customer service. Feel free to contact them if you have any questions. First time customers also get 20% off!

So…Do you need to use a toner? We vote YES if you want to put your best face forward!
